Threat looms on civil rights in Pakistan's Punjab (file photo)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. A report by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed concern over alleged human rights violations in Pakistan's Punjab province.
According to the report, the Crime Control Department (CCD), which was set up in early 2025 to tackle organized and violent crime, faces serious allegations of extrajudicial killings, intimidating families and violating constitutional safeguards.
According to a fact-finding report released by the HRCP, at least 670 police encounters involving CCDs were reported between April and December 2025, resulting in the killing of 924 suspects. Only two policemen were reported killed during the same period.
The report questions this extreme imbalance, which experts say is statistically unlikely in actual armed conflicts. They argue that these figures point to a policy in which the use of deadly force has become routine.
