Communal violence after stone pelting on temple in Jabalpur, 49 arrested (symbolic photo)
JNN, Jabalpur. There was a dispute between Hindu and Muslim parties in Jabalpur district on Thursday night over the use of loudspeaker for Aarti in Durga temple. When the people from the Muslim side protested against the loudspeaker and tried to get it switched off, the dispute that started with the people from the Hindu side reached the level of fighting and stone pelting.
It is alleged that pieces of brick and stones were thrown from the top of the mosque. After this the disturbance started. Vehicles were vandalized. Police dispersed the miscreants using tear gas and mild force. Police forces from 12 nearby police stations reached the spot. Took the situation under control.
On Friday also a situation of conflict arose between the two communities. The crowd overturned a fruit cart. The police deployed on the spot dispersed both the parties using mild force. There is tension in the area. Police have arrested 49 accused. Durga temple and mosque are nearby.
Like every day, Aarti was being performed in the Durga temple at around nine o'clock on Thursday night. During this time, Ramzan prayers were being held in the mosque, when some people from the mosque reached the temple and started pressurizing them to switch off the loudspeakers.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal surrounded the police station and an altercation broke out between the two sides. After that a crowd of 50-60 people came out of the mosque and started beating the people participating in the Aarti. On Friday, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal surrounded the police station. Friday prayers were held in the mosque under strict police guard. Traders themselves should keep their establishments closed.
