People troubled by dirty water supply of Dwarka.

Jagran correspondent, West Delhi. The residents of Sarvhit Apartment located in Sector 17 of Dwarka, a suburb of the capital, are facing a serious health crisis these days. The reason for this is that the water supplied in the colony is polluted, dirty and smelly. The irony is that the main pipeline here has not been changed for the last 25 years, which is now completely dilapidated. About 800 families living here have been facing this hellish situation for the last four years.

The deteriorating health of the colony's children has frightened the residents. Residents have raised questions whether the department is waiting for a tragedy like Indore to happen here too, where innocent children died after drinking dirty water. People say that children are continuously falling ill due to the use of polluted water.

Most are suffering from severe skin allergies and stomach related diseases. The situation is so bad that now people have to buy jars of water from the market for drinking and cooking as well as for bathing, which is a huge financial burden on middle class families.

The RW members here told that the colony was constructed in 1998 and at the same time an iron pipeline was laid, which has not been changed till date. About one and a half years ago, fed up, the residents changed the pipelines of their homes at their own expense, but due to the main supply line being old, the problem remains the same.

The pits of the Water Board have been broken and the dirty water from the dilapidated MCD drains passing nearby is directly entering these pits, from where drinking water is supplied. Besides, the old sewer lines are overflowing every now and then and their water is also flowing into the pit through the same drains, due to which the drinking water is getting polluted with sewer water.

For the last four years we have been facing the brunt of dirty water. The administration is not listening to our pleas due to 25 year old melted pipelines and broken water board pits. - Seema Rawat, Principal, Sarvhit Apartment RWA

My own daughter was hospitalized for several days due to an allergy caused by dirty water. Similar is the situation in many homes, where innocent children are falling ill. - Savita Mishra, Secretary, All Dwarka Residents Welfare Association

The water from the drains flowing next to the supply is getting into the pits. Children are struggling with stomach and allergies. We are continuously meeting the department and public representatives to explain the problem but we are only getting assurances. Asha Rawat, Deputy Head, Sarvhit Apartment RWA

Recently I got this information. In this regard, instructions have been given to the Water Board official, who has gone to the colony and investigated the reasons for the supply of dirty water, in which along with filling the pit with water, leaving the old connection without blocking it is also causing the water to become dirty. This problem will be resolved soon as per the investigation report. - Sandeep Sehrawat, MLA Matiala

Water from people's rooftops is directly flowing into the pits that have been built for water supply, along with this the main pipeline has become old, a survey team is conducting a survey to replace the new pipeline. Work on this will be started soon. - Hansraj, Executive Engineer, Water Board
