UGC told 5 universities including BEU and BMSU

University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared 5 universities of the state as defaulters on charges of negligence in appointment of Lokpal for handling the complaints of students. Among them, Bihar Engineering University, Bihar Medical Science University

UGC has warned these universities to improve their attitude towards students. In 2023, the UGC had mandated the appointment of Lokpal in all the colleges to hear the complaints of students. Universities who did not follow these rules were included in the defaulter list on 17 January. Last week, the Commission published the list of Defaulter University. Along with this, it has been said that all the universities were repeatedly warned about this, but this step has been taken after no action is taken by the universities. The defaulter list from Bihar also includes two private al-Karim University-Katihar and Mata Gujri University-Kishanganj.

Commission has said that the appointment of Lokpal is mandatory to hear the problems of students in the university. This resolves the complaints of the students. It is being told that the process of appointment of Lokpal in these universities has been started rapidly as soon as the list of defaulters is released. Under the new National Education Policy, instructions have been given to appoint Lokpal in universities. After the appointment, this Lokpal will take cognizance of the problems of the students and will suggest a solution to them and will solve it.
