What was released — and what was not
UGC-NET is NTA’s test for three stacked outcomes: Junior Research Fellowship plus Assistant Professor eligibility; Assistant Professor plus Ph.D. admission; and Ph.D. admission only. The June session was a CBT from 22 to 30 June 2026 across 87 subjects.
On 16 August NTA uploaded keys and recorded responses for 84 subjects. A committee is examining complaints of question-paper errors in English, Commerce and Sociology. Those three keys are not on the portal. NTA said a separate public notice would follow the same day, based on the committee’s recommendations.
If that is your subject, do not use a leaked PDF or a Telegram “key.” Wait for the follow-up notice. Do not assume your deadline is 18 August until that notice says so. The 18 August window applies to the 84 live keys only.
How to download the answer key and response sheet
There is no public zip of every subject. You log in and see your paper, responses, and provisional option IDs.
Open ugcnet.nta.nic.in — not a lookalike “nta-result” domain.
Use the candidate link Challenge of Provisional Answer Keys for UGC-NET June 2026.
Log in with the application number and password or date of birth from registration (MeriPehchaan if that is how you signed up).
Open the question paper with recorded responses and the provisional key. Challenge the Question ID and option ID, not the on-screen A/B/C/D letters.
Download the response sheet now. Bulletin 6.2 says NTA may display responses for two to three days and will not supply a copy later under RTI after the result.
Reset login only on the official page. Helpline in the bulletin: 011-40759000. Grievances: [email protected] with name, application number, address and a valid contact — not an anonymous coaching-centre mail.
How to challenge a question by 18 August
Challenges are accepted only through the official online facility. Email, fax, WhatsApp, a letter, or a challenge without the fee will not be considered (bulletin 6.1 and the 16 August notice).
Choose View / Challenge Answer Key.
Select the Question ID you dispute and the option ID you believe is correct.
Upload proof as a single PDF — a textbook page or official syllabus extract, not a social-media screenshot.
Pay Rs 200 per question by 18 August 2026, 11:59 PM.
Save the confirmation. An accepted correction applies to all candidates in that subject; do not file the same item twice.
The April bulletin labelled the fee non-refundable. NTA’s 16 August challenge post, as published, says a full refund if experts accept the challenge. Open that PDF before you pay. Keep the receipt either way.
NTA will not email you a yes or no. Experts review the pool, a final answer key goes on the website, and the result is compiled from that key. After the window or the result, no further answer-key grievance is entertained. There is no re-evaluation.
How to estimate your score
This is a raw estimate from Chapter 2.5 of the bulletin — not a percentile and not a cut-off.
Paper I: 50 questions, 100 marks (teaching/research aptitude).
Paper II: 100 questions, 200 marks (your subject).
Together: 150 questions, 300 marks; one 180-minute sitting; no break.
Correct: +2. Wrong, unanswered, or marked for review: 0. No negative marking.
Count matches between your recorded option ID and the provisional correct ID, then multiply by 2. If a challenge later changes the key:
More than one option held correct: +2 only if you marked any correct option.
All options held correct: +2 to everyone who attempted it.
Question dropped or none correct: +2 only to those who attempted it.
Multi-shift papers are converted to an NTA percentile (bulletin Appendix VIII–IX). A calculator total is a check against the provisional key, not a JRF promise.
What the score is for: JRF, Assistant Professor, Ph.D.
Crossing 40 percent does not by itself qualify you. Bulletin 6.3 uses a floor, then a slot method.
Floor. You must have sat both papers and scored at least 40% aggregate (General / General-EWS) or 35% (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD/PwBD, Third gender as listed). Miss the floor and you are out of the pool.
Slots. Assistant Professor eligibility is limited to about 6% of those who appeared in both papers, split by reservation policy, then derived subject-wise. That percentage becomes the cut-off. A 55% raw score can miss in a crowded subject and clear in a thin one. Last year’s table is not this year’s key.
Three categories (Chapter 1.3):
1 — JRF and Assistant Professor: fellowship, teaching eligibility, and Ph.D. JRF is a smaller slice inside the qualified pool.
2 — Assistant Professor and Ph.D.: no JRF. For Ph.D., NET marks 70%, university interview 30% (UGC Ph.D. Regulations, 2022, as summarised in the bulletin).
3 — Ph.D. only: neither JRF nor Assistant Professor; same 70/30 split. Category 2 and 3 NET marks stay valid for Ph.D. admission for one year from the result date.
The result is percentile plus marks (or normalised marks). You are not individually intimated. Watch the official site. The e-certificate, when issued, is a later NTA process — not the same event as this key.
CSIR-NET is a different portal
Joint CSIR-UGC NET keys also dropped on 16 August, on csirnet.nta.nic.in. Challenge until 18 August, 11:00 PM — an hour earlier than UGC-NET. That Rs 200 fee is described as non-refundable in the CSIR bulletin. Do not paste a UGC-NET application number into the CSIR form.

What to do next
Subject among the 84: download the response sheet, estimate the raw score, challenge only what you can source, by 18 August 11:59 PM.
English, Commerce or Sociology: wait for the separate NTA notice.
After 18 August: watch for the final key and the result. There is no re-check.
Ignore Telegram cut-offs until NTA publishes subject-and-category tables with the result.
FAQ
When will the UGC NET June 2026 result come?
NTA has not announced a date. The bulletin listed it as “to be intimated later.” Do not rely on a coaching “expected date.”
My paper was English, Commerce or Sociology. Can I challenge by 18 August?
Not from this 84-subject release. Your window is whatever the follow-up notice says.
Is the Rs 200 challenge fee refunded?
Read the 16 August PDF. The April bulletin said non-refundable; NTA’s 16 August post says a full refund if experts accept the challenge. Unaccepted challenges are not refunded. Pay only what you can document.
Can I challenge after the result?
No. Bulletin 6.1 bars answer-key grievances after the result; 6.3 bars re-evaluation.
Does 40% mean I have qualified for Assistant Professor?
No. 40% (or 35% for the reserved categories named) is only the floor. Qualification is then limited to about 6% of appeared candidates, by category and subject. JRF is a further slice.
Is CSIR NET the same login?
No. CSIR: csirnet.nta.nic.in. UGC-NET: ugcnet.nta.nic.in. Different papers, different closing times on 18 August.
