Kashi Hindu University. Awakening

Jagran correspondent, Varanasi. The situation turned tense outside the central office of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Tuesday when a large number of students staged a vigorous protest against the admission policy of Central Hindu School (CHS-Girls).

During the protest, heated arguments and scuffles were also witnessed between the students and the proctorial board of the university. Heavy police force remained deployed on the spot to control the situation. The main protest of the protesting students is against reducing the number of seats for admission to class 9 of CHS to 'zero'.

Students say that closing the doors of admission to meritorious girl students is against the academic dignity of the university. Denying admission on the basis of talent is playing with the future of meritorious students. The students have demanded that either additional sections should be increased in Class-9 or selection should be done on all available seats through a transparent entrance examination. The students argue that the Class 6 entrance examination, postponed since the Corona period, should be reinstated immediately.

He says that instead of lottery system, competitive examination is the right medium to select deserving students. The protesters demanded that clear information about hostel seats available for all classes for session 2026 be made public in the official bulletin.

In view of the uproar, the security force of the university (Proctorial Board) remained active. However, there were several scuffles between students and security personnel. The students stood firm on their demands and appealed to the university administration to take immediate clarification and corrective action on this sensitive issue.

BHU administration has clarified its position regarding the admission of girl students in class 9 in Central Hindu Girls School. The administration says that the process of admission in schools is conducted only on the basis of standards set by CBSE.

According to CBSE guidelines, a section can have a maximum capacity of 40 students only. Central Hindu Girls School already has a substantial number of girl students studying in Class 8, who are directly promoted to the next class (IX).

The administration explained through data that a total of three sections are approved for class nine in the school. The total capacity is 120 with 40 girl students in each section. Since the current girl students of Class 8 fill these 120 seats, there are no additional seats left for external admission.

BHU administration has appealed to the parents and students not to pay attention to unconfirmed and misleading information circulating on the internet media. The University reiterated that it is committed to ensuring a transparent admission process within the rules and available resources.
