Saumya Chaurasia, who was the deputy secretary to the former Chief Minister in the liquor scam, has been sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand. ED had arrested him on 16 December. Soumya Chaurasia is accused of illegal earnings of Rs 115.5 crore. Investigation revealed that she was an active member of the liquor syndicate and had also played a role in posting in the Excise Department. The state government has suffered huge revenue loss due to this scam.
Noted Hindi litterateur Vinod Kumar Shukla, who has been awarded the Jnanpith Award, is admitted to AIIMS in a critical condition. Shukla, 89, is suffering from severe respiratory disease and is on a ventilator. He also has interstitial lung disease and pneumonia. Diabetes and high blood pressure are hampering recovery. The literary world is praying for his speedy recovery.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the closing ceremony of Bastar Olympics in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. He expressed the government's commitment to the development of Bastar and against Naxalism. Shah said that Naxalites disrupted the development of Bastar, but now the government is committed to development. He promised to free the country from Naxalism by 31 March 2026 and make Bastar the most developed tribal division.
