Hisar: Drinking water supply stopped in the old city for two days, 50 thousand people affected.
Jagran correspondent, Hisar. The public health department is on full alert after the incident of deaths due to contaminated drinking water in Indore. When water was released three days ago, it was reported that dirty and smelly water reached some houses. People complained about this in many areas including Dogran Mohalla.
Considering safety as paramount, the department immediately stopped the supply, so that no untoward incident happens. The last two days were like a thirst test for the old city. More than 50 thousand people were seen struggling for drinking water in the areas related to Mahavir Colony Water House. Water did not reach taps in most areas on Thursday and Friday. The reason was damage to the drinking water line.
Line broken near Indra Market, problems increased for people
According to departmental engineers, while installing an electric pole near Indra Market, first the sewerage line and then the drinking water line passing along it got damaged. This damage contaminated the water. After this the department started the repair work and intensified the efforts to repair the line.
Half hour test, line testing done at night
The line was tested by releasing water for about half an hour late on Friday night. Public Health Department staff say that no complaint was received from any area during the night. Spot inspection of the damaged site has also been conducted. The department is hopeful that regular drinking water supply will be restored in the old city from Saturday.
This water house of the city is historical
Mahavir Colony Water Ghar is the historical heritage of Hisar's water system. This water house, established during the British rule, was rebuilt in 1969. From this water house, water reaches Ward-1, 3, 8, 13, 15, Ward-20 including Model Town, Millgate, City Police Station, Preeti Nagar and Rishi Nagar. Through about 35,560 connections, the thirst of more than 1 lakh 18 thousand population is quenched from this water house.
Water is supplied regularly from this reservoir. People feel relieved in the areas of the city where the water from this reservoir reaches. At present this problem has come to light due to damage to the line. It is expected that this problem will definitely be resolved by Saturday.
