State Bureau, Patna. On Friday, 50 MLAs together drew attention in the Assembly on the issue of construction of school buildings in their area on the recommendation of MLAs. Such a large number was brought to the attention of MLAs for the first time.

Responding to the government on this issue, Minister Shravan Kumar said that the decision on construction of buildings in schools is taken by a committee constituted under the chairmanship of the DM of the concerned district. District Magistrates will be instructed to give priority to the recommendations made by the MLAs regarding construction work. MLA, Legislative Councilor and MP can make five recommendations each from their level.

In the attention brought together by 50 MLAs, it was said that a good amount of money is being given by the Education Department to the districts for construction of buildings, construction of additional rooms and renovation of dilapidated schools of the state. But the work is being done arbitrarily with the connivance of the headmaster and the district education officer. Funds are not spent where dilapidated schools need to be renovated.

Therefore, the work should be done on the recommendations of the MLAs with the funds approved by the Education Department. One MLA said that the construction work should be investigated by the assembly committee. Nitish Mishra said that the MLAs are not even aware of what is the priority of the school.

MLA Sunil Kumar said that the recommendations of MLAs are not considered in construction work. Minister Shravan Kumar said that all the work is done through educational infrastructure through tender. Till now work has been done in 1346 recommended schools, work is left in only 44.
