Jagran correspondent, Patna. A mock drill on bomb threat was conducted at Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport, Patna on Wednesday. It ran from 3:39 pm to 4:45 pm, with the aim of assessing the effectiveness of the airport's contingency planning, security preparedness and coordination between various agencies.
As part of the drill, a mock call was made to the duty terminal manager informing him of the presence of explosives in the arrivals area. As per prescribed protocol, Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was immediately activated.
Agencies and institutions like Airports Authority of India (AAI), CISF (ASG Patna Airport), four scheduled airline operators, airport police station, Special Branch of State Police (including BDDS), ATS unit of State Police (including BDDS), SIB Patna and Medical Services (Paras HMRI) showed active participation in the drill.
Suspicious bag found, BDDS team neutralized it
During the exercise, BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad) teams of both ASG and state police engaged in investigation of suspicious bags with the help of high-tech equipment and sniffer dogs. During scanning, positive confirmation of possible explosives was found in the bag.
After this, the technical team neutralized the mock bomb and destroyed it safely in the designated cooling pit. The exercise saw active participation from all concerned agencies, which strongly demonstrated the security preparedness of the airport and their collective ability to deal with potential emergencies.
