After the death of Devendra Prasad Singh (73) of the village on Tuesday, his last journey was taken out on the cot as per the same tradition. The elders of the village say that this custom has been going on from their ancestors and till date no one has tried to break it. Anil Kumar Singh says, "The population of our village is about three thousand. It is believed here that a person should be bid farewell on the same cot on which he spent his life. This is an expression of last respect."

Identity created even among the younger generation

Young Manoj Kumar Himanshu says that earlier the people around considered this tradition strange, but now it has become our identity. He believes that this is not a show, but a feeling. This is the simplest and most sacred way of connecting the life of the deceased with his own world. Vimalendra Kumar Singh of the village calls it a part of the learning and culture of the ancestors.

Last journey with full rituals

The dead body is laid on the same cot on which the deceased rested during life. The cot is first cleaned and a white cloth is spread on it. The last journey is carried out with full rituals. The people of the village participate enthusiastically in lending their shoulders.
