Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. After the Supreme Court's order to pick up stray dogs from public places like hospitals, schools, stadiums and keep them in dog shelters, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has started making arrangements for this. A dog shelter is going to be built in the old veterinary hospital of Moti Bagh.

Sterilization center also operated

For this, a tender has been invited to prepare a dog shelter at a cost of Rs 57 lakh. There will be arrangements to keep 700 stray dogs in it. This will also be the first dog shelter which will also have an operation theater for the treatment of stray dogs. Besides this, sterilization center will also be operated in it.

Separate arrangement for dogs suffering from rabies

A senior NDMC official said that after the order of the Supreme Court, we have prepared the primary dog shelter in Moti Bagh itself to keep 30 stray dogs, but the order of the Supreme Court is that stray dogs have to be picked up from hospitals, schools, stadiums and kept in the shelter.

For this we are preparing a modern dog shelter. In which there will be arrangements to keep not only stray dogs. Rather, there will be a system to keep dangerous dogs separate. At the same time, there will be separate arrangements for keeping dogs suffering from rabies.

Do not make the dog feel uncomfortable

The officer further said that there is an old veterinary hospital of NDMC in Moti Bagh. Behind which it will be built on the empty space. He told that the dog shelter will be made in such a way that the dogs do not feel uncomfortable. Therefore, while the shelter will also have a feeding area, there will also be a place where the dogs can meet each other.

There are two ways to operate

He told that we estimate that this dog shelter will be ready at a cost of Rs 57 lakh. We have given three months time to make it. As soon as the tender comes. After its technical analysis, its work will be started after taking approval from the competent authority. However, NDMC has not yet decided whether it will operate this dog shelter itself or will give it to any voluntary organization.

Arrangements will be made for 300 canals

The official said that it will have 300 kennels while 20 feet high nets will also be installed around the shelter so that the dogs cannot escape. At the same time, an area will be created from which experts will also be able to inspect this shelter from outside.
