Colorful gulal flying in the sky and colors falling from the water guns made the whole town colourful. The joy of Holi started increasing as soon as the morning broke amidst the excitement of Phalgun month. As the sun rose, the shower of colors also became more intense. The local people standing in the streets of the town kept showering gulal and colors on the devotees who were doing parikrama. Amidst the sounds of drums and hori songs, the entire atmosphere was filled with Brajaras.

Barsana drowned in the colorful sea

A large number of devotees from India and abroad including Mathura started reaching Barsana since morning to see the world famous colorful Holi. Devotees were seen immersed in colors with chants of “Radhe-Radhe” and “Hori Khelein…”. Many devotees presented a glimpse of Braj culture by wearing traditional costumes.

Many male devotees followed the tradition of playing Holi by donning the form of Sakhi.

The special attraction was that many male devotees assumed the form of Sakhi and followed the tradition of playing Holi in the court of Kishoriji. It is believed that this unique tradition has been going on for centuries to commemorate the divine love of Radha and Krishna, which is still performed with the same joy and devotion even today.
