PTI, Alappuzha. An 85-year-old accused in a POCSO case was attacked by another prisoner lodged in the same jail in Kerala's Alappuzha district jail. The prisoner who beat up the accused told the police that he is the father of two daughters and could not control himself after getting information about the allegations of sexual abuse involving children.
The incident took place on the intervening night of 31 December 2025 and 1 January 2026. According to jail officials, both the prisoners were brought to the jail just a few hours ago.
Meanwhile, the 39-year-old prisoner came to know that the elderly man was accused in a case related to sexual exploitation of children. On hearing this, he got angry and attacked the accused.
The entire incident was recorded in the CCTV cameras installed in the jail premises, after which the jail administration lodged a complaint with the police. The POCSO accused suffered facial injuries in the attack and complained of toothache, although his condition was later declared stable.
Police said that a case has been registered against the prisoner who attacked under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code and further investigation is underway.
