Jagran correspondent Araria. The body of a newly married Sudha Devi was found hanging from the noose of a saree in Godhi Chowk ward number nine of the city police station area. The deceased Sudha Devi (22) was married to Nitish Kumar, a resident of Godhi Chowk, on August 21 this year.
As soon as the news of the incident spread, there was a sensation in the entire area and a huge crowd of people gathered at the spot. As soon as the information was received, the city police reached the spot and took the body into custody and sent it to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
The deceased's brother Subodh Kumar Singh has accused his in-laws of murder over dowry. Accusing her in-laws, she said that no dowry was taken at the time of marriage, but after a few days of marriage, husband Nitish Kumar and his relatives started demanding dowry.
First a Bullet bike was demanded, when it was not available a Pulsar bike was given. After that a demand for CNG auto was made, that too was fulfilled. Then cash was asked for opening the shop.
Subodh Kumar Singh alleged that for not paying the money, his brother-in-law Nitish Kumar and his in-laws continuously beat up Sudha Devi and ultimately killed her. He was beaten badly even before he was hanged. Neighbors informed about the incident over phone, after which the relatives reached Araria and informed the city police station.
The police have detained the deceased's husband Nitish Kumar and are interrogating him closely. Other members of the in-laws are absconding after the incident. City police station incharge Manish Kumar Rajak said that the case appears to be one of dowry harassment and murder. Further action will be taken after registering a case on the written complaint of the relatives of the deceased. At present the investigation is going on and the post mortem report is awaited.
