Those taking new electricity connections will come under the ambit of holding tax.
Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. Residential colonies are continuously being established in urban areas. Many gardens and farms have also been converted into colonies, but the number of holdings is not increasing in the records of the Municipal Corporation. The number of houses has increased by four to five hundred in the last six years. On the instructions of the government, when the corporation asked for the records of the consumers of the electricity department, a huge difference was found in the figures of both.
In this regard, following instructions from the Urban Development and Housing Department on Tuesday, the Municipal Corporation Administration has decided to investigate these consumers. The Municipal Corporation team will conduct site inspection of new electricity consumers and check whether they are holding tax holders or not and will advise them to take necessary steps as per requirement.
According to the information, till now there are 81417 houses in the records of Municipal Corporation which are depositing holding tax. Whereas the number of consumers in urban areas with the electricity department is 83421. In such a situation, a difference of 2004 holdings has been found in the figures of both.
The Electricity Department told the Corporation that so far in the year 2025, 1804 people have taken electricity connections in their homes. New consumers have taken connections in their homes but have not got the mutation done from the corporation.
In this regard, Municipal Corporation City Manager Vinay Prasad Yadav said on Tuesday that a list of new electricity consumers has been sought from the Electricity Department. On the basis of that, the Municipal Corporation team will inspect the site and verify whether they are holding tax holders of the Corporation or not. If not, then a notice will be sent demanding withholding tax. Along with this, instructions will also be given to get the mutation done.
