Eighth Pay Commission should be implemented within six months

A meeting of the Standing Committee of DC/JCM (Departmental Council and Joint Consultative Machinery) and All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF) was held in New Delhi on 16th and 17th February to discuss important issues related to Railway employees. The meeting was presided over by AIRF General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra. Chairman and CEO were also present on behalf of Railway Board.
Employee organizations raised demand for salaries
The meeting was attended by many representatives including General Secretary of East Central Railway Employees Union (ECRKU) S N P Srivastava, S S D Mishra. During this, issues related to salaries, allowances and service conditions of employees were discussed in detail. Union leaders made it clear that concrete decisions should now be taken on the long pending demands of the employees.
Eighth Pay Commission should be implemented in six months
AIRF General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra and ECRKU General Secretary SNP Srivastava stressed that the Eighth Pay Commission should be implemented within six months. He said that in view of rising inflation and cost of living, salary revision is extremely necessary. Timely decisions are necessary to strengthen the financial condition of the employees.
Basic salary proposal of Rs 51,480
It was proposed in the meeting that under the Eighth Pay Commission, the minimum basic pay should be fixed at Rs 51,480. Union representatives argued that this amount would be fair for the employees in the current economic circumstances. He said that this will increase the morale of the employees and the efficiency will also improve.
Annual salary increase should also be ensured
ECRKU media in-charge AK Sharma said that along with salary revision, the annual salary increase payable to the employees should also be ensured. He said that despite the implementation of Pay Commission, if there is no regular increase then the employees will not be able to get the expected benefits.
Appeal to the government for quick decision
It was also said in the meeting that protecting the interests of Railways and Central Government employees is of paramount importance. The employee organizations demanded from the Central Government that necessary steps should be taken in this direction soon. The leaders expressed hope that the government will take positive initiatives and consider the demands of the employees sympathetically.
