State Bureau, Chandigarh. The state government will compensate the farmers for the loss caused by potatoes and cabbage being sold at very low prices in the markets of Haryana. The date for physical verification of crops of farmers seeking assistance under Bhavantar Bharpi has been extended till 20th February. Apart from this, compensation will also be provided for the upcoming crops Tomato, Lady's Finger, Onion, Ghee, Bitter Gourd, Chilli, Capsicum, Brinjal, Litchi and Mango.
On January 17 also, under the Bhavantar Compensation Scheme, Rs 20 crore was released as compensation to 4073 farmers cultivating potatoes and cauliflower. In view of the farmers' inclination towards the horticulture scheme and their financial loss, the Horticulture Department has extended the date of physical verification of potatoes and cauliflower till Friday.
Similarly, time limit has been fixed for registration of other horticultural crops on Meri Fasal-Mera Byora portal and farmers have been advised to take advantage of the scheme by registering their crops within the stipulated period. A protected price has been fixed at Rs 500 for tomato and Rs 650 per quintal for onion, for which farmers will have to register by February 15. Verification will be done by March 15.
The protected price for ladyfinger has been kept at Rs 1050 per quintal, for ghee at Rs 450, for bitter gourd at Rs 1350 and for chilli at Rs 950 per quintal. Registration for all four crops can be done till March 31, while verification will also take place during the same period.
The protected price of capsicum is Rs 900 and the protected price of brinjal is Rs 500, for which registration will be done till March 15 and verification till March 31. The protected price of litchi has been fixed at Rs 2400 and that of mango at Rs 1950 per quintal.
