As of now, there is a provision to change the boarding point for eight to 18 hours. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. There is relief news for railway passengers. Now passengers can change their boarding point half an hour after the departure of the train or till the final reservation chart is prepared. Soon this new system will be implemented in Indian Railways including North Eastern Railway.
Railway Board has issued necessary guidelines to this effect. Sanjay Manocha, Director (Passenger Marketing-II), Railway Board, has written a letter to CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) seeking a report on the technical feasibility of this new system.
Actually, Indian Railways is preparing for an important change to make the travel of its passengers more flexible and convenient. According to the new proposal of the Railway Board, now passengers will be able to change their boarding station till the second reservation chart of the train is prepared. If this proposal is implemented, passengers will have the freedom to change their boarding point up to half an hour before the train departs.
It will be implemented in a phased manner, that is, first this facility will be started from some major trains only, later this system will be available in all trains. As per current rules, passengers can change the boarding station only till the first chart is made.
Often the first chart of long distance trains is prepared eight to 18 hours before the commencement of the journey. In such a situation, if a passenger had to catch a train from another station at the last moment, he was not left with the option of changing the boarding point. In view of this problem, the Railway Board has decided to relax the rules.

At present, at the Indian Railways level, till now the passengers are getting the facility to change the boarding point till eight to 18 hours of the departure of the train i.e. till the preparation of the first reservation chart. Keeping in mind the change in the time of preparation of the first reservation chart of four hours, the Railway Board has prepared a proposal to change the time of changing the boarding point for the convenience of the passengers.
The Board says that permission for change in boarding point can be granted till the preparation of the second reservation chart. For this, CRIS has been directed to review the proposal and check its feasibility. The Board has also been asked to submit its suggestions, so that a final decision regarding the new proposal can be taken as soon as possible.
