Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College will be the first medical college in the state, where a herbal garden will be built. A target has been set to prepare the herbal garden within two months. After the herbal garden is ready, students will research the relationship between Ayurveda and Allopathy.
By studying medicinal plants, we will explore the possibilities of treatment of cancer, heart disease and other serious diseases. BAU's cooperation is being taken in the herbal garden to be built in the college campus. This garden is being established under the supervision of the Chairman of the Forestry Department of BAU.
The garden will be set up on forty decimal land.
Principal of the Medical College, Dr. Avilesh Kumar said that behind the main building of the college, where the animal house has been built, there is about 40 decimals of vacant land. There is a plan to set up a herbal garden on this land.
HOD of Pharmacology Department, Dr. Jitendra Kumar said that more than 100 medicinal plants including Aloe Vera, Mint, Lemongrass, Clove, Harsingar, Saptaparni, Ajwain, Ashwagandha, Shatavar, Titraj, Camphor, Shankhpushpi, Sugar Cure, Patharchur will be planted in the Herbal Garden. Every plant planted here will prove useful in the treatment of some disease.
Research will be done on the relationship between Ayurveda and Allopathy
The main objective behind creating this garden is to understand the relationship between Ayurveda and Allopathy. Dr. Jeetendra said that this garden will bring better experience to the students doing MBBS and PG in Pharmacology. The responsibility of maintaining the garden will be of the Pharmacology Department.
Pharmacology students will study what types of medicines can be made from medicinal plants. Many English medicines are also made from medicinal plants.
Digitalis, a medicine given for heart disease, is made from the leaves of a medicinal plant called foxglove. At the same time, there will also be research on whether cancer medicine can be made from medicinal plants.
