BJP's attack on Congress (Photo-PTI)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka has accused the Congress government of creating a 'mini Bangladesh' in the state, which is a result of their appeasement politics. The BJP leader pointed out that there were no houses in the area on Google Maps a year ago, indicating that the settlements had come up only in the last six months.
Karnataka is becoming mini Bangladesh
R. Ashoka said that after fooling the Kannadigas for so long, the Congress government led by CM Siddaramaiah is creating a mini Bangladesh in Karnataka. Launching a scathing attack on the Congress government on Wednesday, December 31, after visiting the encroachment site at Kogilu Layout in Yolahanka, Ashok alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was promoting large-scale encroachment and illegal settlements.
The Congress government faced severe criticism from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for demolishing houses meant for minorities. Concerned by this, the senior leadership of the Congress also intervened and directed the state government to be sympathetic towards the minorities. The state government has announced that it will provide alternative housing arrangements for those genuine residents.
'Congress is doing appeasement politics'
The BJP criticized the government for taking a U-turn on the issue and termed it as 'appeasement politics'. Ashok told reporters at the demolition site that a worrying trend was being seen in the state after the change of government and raised questions on the identity and origin of the people living on the encroached government land.
The BJP said nearly four lakh people in Karnataka are living without electricity as their houses have been declared illegal, while providing cable-electricity connections to Kogilu slum residents. Describing the land as prime property worth around Rs 600 crore, he alleged that such settlements would turn into crime hubs and accused the government of giving preference to 'Bangladeshis' in the name of rehabilitation. What are you giving to Kannada people? He asked why the government was "gifting houses to Bangladeshis for the New Year."
