State Bureau, New Delhi. There was severe cold in the capital on the last day of the year 2025. There was dense fog in the morning which affected traffic. Vehicles were seen crawling on the roads. Air traffic and train movement were also disrupted. It remained cloudy throughout the day and fog came again at night. Due to drop in minimum and maximum temperatures, 'cold day' like conditions persisted throughout the day. Air quality also remained in the 'very poor' category.

This is the coldest day recorded since 2019

According to the Meteorological Department, this was the coldest day recorded in Delhi after the year 2019. Similar weather is expected to continue on Thursday also. There may be some increase in temperature after two days. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature on Wednesday was 14.2 degrees Celsius, which is 6.2 degrees below normal. This is the lowest in December after 2019. The maximum temperature recorded on 31 2019 was 9.4 degrees Celsius.

When is it called 'cold day'

At the same time, last year the lowest maximum temperature was 14.6 degrees Celsius on 27 December. On Wednesday, maximum temperatures were recorded at 13.6 degrees Celsius in Palam, 13.4 degrees in Lodhi Road, 13.8 degrees in Ridge and 13.1 degrees Celsius in Aya Nagar. At the same time, the minimum temperature was 6.4 degrees Celsius, which is 0.4 degrees less than normal. The minimum temperature was 7.7 degrees Celsius in Palam, 6.8 degrees Celsius in Lodhi Road and 7.8 degrees Celsius in Ridge. When the minimum temperature is below 10 degrees and the maximum temperature is about 4.5 degrees below normal, it is considered a 'cold day'.

Visibility was also very low

According to IMD, there is a possibility of light rain with cloudy sky on January 1. According to Skymet, due to the cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana, very light rainfall may occur at some places in NCR. Visibility was also very low due to dense fog.

Visibility in Safdarjung reached 50 meters between 6.30 am and 7.30 am, which later increased to 100 meters. Indira Gandhi International Airport also recorded visibility of 50 meters in the morning. According to meteorologists, there is a possibility of dense to very dense fog for the next five days.

The air remained in very poor category

Delhi's air remained in the very poor category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 373. According to CPCB's Sameer App, the air was in 'very poor' category at 23 monitoring centers and 'severe' category at 14 centres. Delhi's air may remain in 'very poor' category till January 3.
