Death Of An Undertrial Prisoner Lodged Under NDPS Act Of East Champaran Jail, Undergoing Treatment In SKMCH.

Jagran correspondent, Muzaffarpur. Undertrial Prisoner Death: An undertrial prisoner of East Champaran Jail died during treatment at Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), Muzaffarpur. The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Kalam Hawari, resident of Charwa Majhauliya village of Ramgarhwa police station area. He was lodged in East Champaran jail since 2022 in a case under NDPS Act.

It is reported that Kalam Hawari was suffering from high blood pressure (BP) and diabetes (sugar) for a long time. In recent times, his health deteriorated and he started having trouble breathing. Earlier he was being treated at East Champaran Sadar Hospital, but when his condition became serious, the doctors there referred him to SKMCH for better treatment.

Late on Tuesday night, on the instructions of the jail administration, he was brought to SKMCH amid tight security arrangements. His treatment started here under the supervision of doctors, but he died during treatment on Wednesday.

Policemen deployed for the security of the prisoner said that information about the incident has been given to the concerned jail administration. As per rules, post mortem will be conducted under the supervision of magistrate. After post-mortem, the body will be handed over to the relatives for last rites.

Kalam Hawari was in jail since 2022 as an undertrial in a case registered under the NDPS Act. As soon as the news of his death was received, a wave of mourning ran among the family members. Further process is being completed at the administrative level.
