With the nomination of mayor and ward councilor candidates in the district headquarters, a huge surge in the demand for flowers is being seen. The situation is such that the enthusiasm of the supporters and the rallies of the candidates have boosted the business of flower traders.
Surendra Kumar of NK Flowers, one of the leading vendors of the city, says that marigold flowers reign supreme during the election season. Especially yellow and orange marigolds remain the first choice of leaders. Supporters believe that unless Netaji has a heavy marigold garland around his neck and the vehicles of his convoy are not laden with flowers, an atmosphere of victory cannot be created.
In view of the increasing demand, wholesalers have doubled the consignment coming from Kolkata. Rahul Malakar of Calcutta Nursery says that during the elections, marigold flower garlands are being sold for Rs 15 to 20, but after the beginning of Lagan on February 2, the price of flowers will go up. He said that after the completion of nominations and allotment of election symbols, this business will be at its peak when public meetings and door-to-door campaigns will begin.
Not only this, he told that this huge demand for marigold flowers will remain on the day of counting of votes and thereafter till the victory procession of the winning candidates. Currently, on the streets of Dhanbad, vehicles decorated with flowers and candidates wearing garlands are saying that the fragrance of marigold is also playing an important role in the celebration of democracy.
