E-rickshaw Overturns After Colliding With Car In Janakpuri, 6 Year Old Girl Dies; The Driver Was Released On Bail Within A Few Hours

Jagran correspondent, West Delhi. A six-year-old innocent girl died in a road accident in Janakpuri on Tuesday morning, while her grandmother was seriously injured. Taking immediate action in this case, the police arrested the accused car driver Sanjeev on Wednesday. The car involved in the crime has also been confiscated.

Western District Deputy Commissioner of Police said that the incident took place around 7:40 am on February 17, 2026. 57-year-old Mercy Xavier, a resident of Lajwanti Garden, was going somewhere in an e-rickshaw with her six-year-old granddaughter. As soon as his e-rickshaw reached near Janakpuri Fire Station, a speeding car coming from the front hit him hard.

The collision was so severe that the e-rickshaw overturned on the road, leaving both the grandmother and the innocent girl bleeding. Immediately after the accident, both the injured were taken to Mata Channan Devi Hospital. After first aid, considering his critical condition, he was referred to Max Hospital, Dwarka.

Unfortunately, the innocent girl died during treatment. The police have handed over the girl's body to her relatives after getting the post-mortem done at DDU Hospital. Meanwhile, Nani Mercy Xavier is currently undergoing treatment and her condition is said to be stable.

The accused was released within a few hours of his arrest

Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the police immediately registered an FIR and started investigation. During the investigation, the police seized the car that caused the accident and arrested the accused driver, Sanjeev, resident of Majra Dabas.

However, after interrogation and legal procedures, the accused has been released on bail as per rules due to the bailable section. The police is engaged in the process of further technical investigation of the case and recording the statements of witnesses.
