Jagran correspondent, Kapurthala. There was chaos in a rice sheller mill located on Sultanpur Lodhi Road in Kapurthala on Thursday morning when the paddy dryer suddenly caught fire. The fire spread so fast that about 800 sacks of paddy kept near the dryer got caught in it and were burnt to ashes in no time.
The mill owner is estimated to have suffered a loss of lakhs of rupees in this accident. According to the information, this incident happened in the sheller of Prakash Chand Crori Mal located on Sultanpur Road. In the morning, the work of drying paddy was going on in the dryer, when suddenly a fire broke out. Within a few minutes the fire engulfed the sacks of paddy kept nearby.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the fire brigade was informed. According to the Fire Brigade Office, information about fire in the sheller was received at 10.39 am, immediately after which at 10.40 am, Fire Officer Gurpreet Singh reached the spot with his team.

It took two hours to control the fire
To control the fire, rescue operation was started with the help of two fire tenders. Till the time of writing the news, the fire brigade team was continuously extinguishing the fire for about two hours. The surrounding areas were secured to prevent the fire from spreading and causing damage to other parts and machinery of the sheller.
According to the mill owner, a large quantity of paddy has been burnt and destroyed in this accident, causing economic loss worth lakhs of rupees. At present the cause of the fire has not been known. The administration and fire brigade teams are busy investigating the matter.
