Gates Foundation will help Bihar in health, nutrition, agriculture and rural development
State Bureau, Patna. The Gates Foundation will continue to provide technical support to the state government in key areas of Bihar like health, nutrition, agriculture and rural development. The objective of this partnership, which has been going on since 2010, is not only to run the schemes but also to strengthen the health system institutionally. On Friday, this earlier agreement between Bihar Government and Gates Foundation was again renewed for the next five years.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Health Minister Mangal Pandey in the meeting room of the Old Secretariat. On behalf of Bihar government, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit and Foundation's India Director Archana Vyas signed the document.
This agreement, effective from April 2026, will not only help in the operation of the schemes but will also strengthen the health system institutionally. Under this, special attention will be given to works like maternal and child health, vaccination, nutrition improvement, digital health management, strengthening data analysis system and capacity building at the grassroots level.
On the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary said that this cooperation will accelerate the state's pace of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that the maternal mortality ratio of the state has come down to 104 and a target has been set to bring it down to 70.
The institutional delivery rate has reached 76.2 percent and full vaccination coverage has reached 93 percent. Pratyaya Amrit said the Gates Foundation will provide the government with technical expertise, global experience, data-based strategies, advisory and training support in policy making. This will help in ensuring access to quality health services to backward areas.
