There has been a sensation in the area after the name of Balsamand village of Hisar district came to light in the online investment scam of Rs 209 crore exposed in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. The mastermind of this interstate racket, Dr. Ekant Yogdutt alias Dr. Marfin, is originally a resident of Balsamand village of Hisar.
After Ekant's arrest, his family background and old disputes have also come into discussion in the village. According to the villagers, the mother of the accused, Meenakshi Sharma, had been the Sarpanch of the village and later a Zilla Parishad member. However, due to complaints during his tenure as Sarpanch, he had to leave the post midway. On the other hand, father Yagdutt Sharma has also been surrounded by controversies related to financial transactions and loans.
Villagers say that a loan was taken from the villagers for the medical education of their son and daughter, for which the demand is made even today. Dr. Ekant's cousin is in politics. In this case, Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested eight accused, in which apart from the kingpin Ekant, other seven accused are from Kashmir.
ATM cards, bank documents and foreign currency have also been recovered from the possession of the accused. Police has also started the process of attaching the property. The police are interrogating the accused to find out other accused involved in this case.
