Terror of fundamentalists in Bangladesh. (Reuters)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Shafiqul Alam, a key aide and media advisor of interim government chief advisor Mohammad Yunus, has apologized for the chaos and destruction created in Dhaka over the uproar created by fundamentalists in Bangladesh.
The fundamentalist mob went on a rampage throughout the night in Dhaka and burnt newspaper offices and cultural centres. On this Shafikul Alam said that I wish I could dig a big piece of land and bury myself in shame.
The Yunus administration is adopting a soft stance towards radicals, which is encouraging arsonists and rioters.
I failed to help you- Shafiqul Alam
Shafikul Alam said in a Facebook post, last night I received a crying call from my journalist friends working in 'The Daily Star' and 'Prothom Alo' asking for help. To all my friends, I sincerely apologize that I failed to help you. I called the right people several times, tried to get help, but help did not arrive on time.
Fundamentalists attacked the newspaper office
He further wrote that finally, I slept at five in the morning, after knowing that all the journalists trapped inside 'The Daily Star' had been rescued and were safe. However, by then both newspapers had suffered the worst mob attacks and arson on media institutions in the country.
Shafiqul Alam said that as a former journalist he was sorry and his wish was to dig up a piece of land and bury himself in shame.
