Talking about the war of 1971, the sacrifice of the warriors of Uttarakhand cannot be forgotten in this victory story of the Indian Army. 248 warriors of Uttarakhand had sacrificed their lives in this war.
78 soldiers of Uttarakhand were injured while taking on the enemy in the battle. The whole world recognized the indomitable courage of these warriors. In this war, 74 brave men of the state who fought each other with the enemy army had received gallantry medals.
This saga of bravery and courage still inspires the future generations. History is witness to the fact that in the war of 1971, the soldiers of Uttarakhand did not lag behind in defeating the enemy army.
The then Army Chief Sam Maneksha (later Field Marshal) and the Army Commander who led the Eastern Command in Bangladesh, Lt. General Jagjit Singh Arora also saluted the courage of the brave soldiers of the state.
