Israeli attack on school shelter in Gaza, five Palestinians killed
Reuters, Gaza. Five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack on a school sheltering displaced people in the al-Tufa area, east of Gaza City. Mohammad Abu Selmiya, head of Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, gave this information on Friday.
The Palestinian Civil Emergency Service said most of the dead were children and many of the injured were admitted to hospitals for treatment. The bodies were recovered after the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs coordinated with the Israelis.
The Israeli military said that some suspicious persons were identified outside the designated ceasefire line and that its troops fired on them. There are claims of casualties in the area and details are being reviewed.Hamas described the attack as a brutal crime and another violation of the ceasefire agreement.
According to the Health Ministry, the deaths of these five people bring to 400 the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire began in October. Israel has said that three of its soldiers have been killed by Hamas in Gaza during the same period.
