Amit Singh, Ranchi. The number of women getting passports made in the state is increasing rapidly. Special facilities for women have been restored in the passport office. Of the total applicants in the last three years, about 38 percent were women. In the year 2025, 1,13,384 passports were issued from Ranchi Regional Passport Office. Of these, more than 36 thousand were women. Passports of 27,206 women were issued in the year 2022, 32,015 in the year 2023 and 34782 in the year 2024.
The Regional Passport Office of Ranchi was established in July 2002. Of the total number of passports issued since then till December 2025, the maximum number of passports have been issued last year. The Ministry of External Affairs has released the report for the year 2025 regarding passport service. About 1,12,844 passports will be made in the year 2024 and a total of 1.13 lakh passports will be made in the year 2025. According to statistics, there are about 17 lakh passport holders in the state.
According to the data, West Singhbhum district is at number one in terms of making passports, while Ranchi is at second and Dhanwad is at third. About 10.98 lakh passports were made by the Regional Passport Office from 2013 to December 2025. Since the Corona period, the number of people getting passports is continuously increasing.
More than one lakh passports are being issued every year. 1 lakh 900 passports were issued in the year 2022, 1 lakh 9 thousand in the year 2023, 1 lakh 12 thousand in the year 2024 and 1 lakh 13 thousand in the year 2025. Till now, the lowest number of passports were made in the year 2020 at 39 thousand. In many districts, there is a delay in making passports due to delay in police verification.
More people going abroad after getting passport made in Palamu: In backward districts of the country

While in Ranchi appointments are available within 24 hours, applicants from Jamshedpur have to wait for a month.
Increase in the number of people getting e-passport made in Ranchi
The number of people making e-passports is increasing in the state. It was started as a pilot project on April 1, 2024. The government has brought this to keep the data of passport holders safe and avoid duplication. E-passport is a combined paper and electronic passport. Regional Passport Offices located at Ranchi are currently issuing e-passports to citizens.
For the first time in Tamil Nadu, the process of issuing e-passport started on March 3, 2025. So far, about 80 thousand e-passports have been issued. Apart from Ranchi, e-passport service has been restored in cities like Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Shimla, Raipur, Amritsar, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Surat.

With the help of the app launched by the Ministry of External Affairs, time will be saved in police verification. Using the app reduces the time limit for issuing a passport by 10 days. This means that after the launch of the app, passports will be made within five days. The app is being used 100% in police stations in 7 districts of Jharkhand. In the police stations where the app is being used, the speed of issuance of passports is better than other districts.
