Kerala Panchayat Election Result.
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a surprising performance in the local body elections in Kerala. BJP has won over the corporation in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. This is an unexpected success for the saffron party.
BJP won 50 out of 101 wards in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation elections. The ruling LDF was reduced to only 29 seats and the Congress-led UDF to 19 seats, while two seats went to independents. This is being considered as the beginning of the end of the Left Front's dominance over the capital for the last 45 years.
BJP's victory is a big blow to Congress. Actually, Shashi Tharoor is Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram seat. Recently he has been in the headlines due to his praise of PM Modi and his absence from major Congress meetings. However, Congress has performed better in the entire state. If we talk about rural areas, the contest was between UDF and LDF, but BJP has definitely raised alarm bells by strengthening its hold in urban areas.
This time BJP has either won or is leading in 577 wards across the state. Its unprecedented growth is being seen in urban areas. This is being seen as BJP coming from the margins to the mainstream.
