Jagran Team, Shimla. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Monday launched the Shimla Home-Stay Portal http://homestay.hp.gov.in. Through this portal, home-stay registration can now be done sitting at home. The registration process on the portal has been made extremely simple and user friendly.

Do not harass hoteliers in the name of objection

On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the State Government is continuously making efforts to provide maximum facilities to home-stay operators and hotel owners, so that there is no adverse impact on their business. He said that hoteliers should not be harassed in the name of objection.

Do not stop registration due to fire NOC

In an important step to provide impetus to the hospitality industry, the Chief Minister directed that renewal of registration of home-stays should not be stopped due to fire no objection certificate (NOC). He asked the Tourism Department to provide provisional registration to such hotels, so that their business continues to operate smoothly.

Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that in view of the immense potential of tourism in the state, home-stay scheme has been started to earn self-employment from tourism. He said that the objective of the home-stay scheme is to promote rural tourism and attract tourists towards untouched tourist destinations.

He said that the tourism sector has a major contribution in the revenue of the state, hence the present government has expanded the scope of this scheme to include urban areas also so that more and more self-employment opportunities can be available to the local people. He said that home-stay with a maximum of six rooms facility can be registered under the scheme.

Earning will be done at home

The Chief Minister said that by operating home-stay, apart from providing excellent facilities to the tourists, the landlords will also get good income at home. He said that serving local cuisine to tourists will further increase the income of home-stay owners as tourists like local cuisine and feel at home. He said that the ancient style houses built in the village attract tourists, especially foreign tourists.

Interest subsidy under home stay scheme

He said that the present government has started the interest subsidy scheme under the Home-Stay Scheme so that more and more people can take advantage of this scheme to increase their means of income. Under this scheme, interest subsidy amount of 3, 4 and 5 percent is being given for home-stay operation in urban, rural and tribal areas respectively. He said that this interest grant is provided on term loan to build or expand or upgrade a tourism unit.
