Jagran correspondent, Varanasi. The Municipal Corporation has announced 100 percent rebate on old interest on water tax and sewer tax till March 31 under the Golden Rebate Scheme. In such a situation, after 35 days the building owners will have to deposit tax along with interest. A total of 2,33,708 buildings in the city are under the purview of house tax, water tax and sewer tax.
A total of Rs 434.65 crore tax is outstanding on these buildings. A total recovery target of Rs 225.05 crore has been set in the current financial year (2025-26). Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal, while reviewing zone-wise tax collection on Tuesday, directed the officials to intensify the campaign for collection of house tax and water utility before the end of the financial year.
Said that building owners who do not deposit tax by March 31 will not get the benefit of any kind of exemption in the next financial year. Recovery will be made from them along with interest. Now instructions have been given to start the recovery campaign as soon as the new financial year starts.

The corporation is conducting publicity to make the building owners aware for 100% recovery as per the target. Zone wise camps are being organized for convenience. Not only this, tax can also be deposited online at home through QR code and on the corporation's website.
