State Bureau, Patna. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLAs staged a strong demonstration in the Assembly premises on Wednesday demanding payment of the alleged outstanding amount of Rs 2 lakh under the Chief Minister Mahila Udyami Yojana.
RJD members holding placards and banners raised slogans against the government and alleged that the state government was avoiding paying for women's rights.
RJD leaders leading the protest said that a large number of beneficiary women are waiting to get the amount stipulated under the scheme, but the payment is pending.
He said that the government had promised to make women financially self-reliant, but now it is going back on the promise.
RJD MLAs demanded that the dues of Rs 2 lakh should be released to all eligible women without any delay and a transparent review of the payment process should be conducted.
Opposition members accused the government of not being serious on the issue of women empowerment. He said that if the payment is not made soon, the agitation will be intensified inside and outside the House.
However, the payment process related to the scheme is going on as per the prescribed rules and the amount is released only after eligibility verification. The government has termed the opposition's allegations as political.
