Digital Desk, New Delhi. Seven months after the Indian Air Force (IAF) attack on Pakistan's Murid airbase, large-scale repair and reconstruction work has started there. New high-resolution satellite images obtained from Google Maps show a key command and control building completely covered with tarpaulin, which was targeted during Operation Sindoor in May.

It is clearly visible in the pictures that the building of Murid Air Base, which is near Pakistan's drone operation complex, is now completely covered with a big tarpaulin. Some part of the roof of this building had fallen in the attack by the Indian Air Force. The strike is believed to have caused extensive damage to the building and destruction to the interiors.

Photographs taken in June, after the attack, showed a green tarpaulin covering only a portion of the building. The damage was being assessed at that time. Now the entire building has been covered with a large tarpaulin and construction net, which clearly shows that repair or reconstruction work has started. Militaries often use such heavy tarpaulins to hide damage from satellite surveillance, remove debris or cover sensitive repair work.

The Indian Air Force never disclosed which weapon was used at Murid airbase. But from the pictures after the attack, experts believe that a special missile weapon (Penetrator Warhead) that penetrates the roof may have been used. Such weapons break the roof at high speed, explode late after penetrating inside, causing more damage inside the building.

Why is Murid Airbase important?

PAF Base Murid, located in Chakwal district of Punjab province of Pakistan, is an important center of Pakistan Air Force. Drones and unmanned combat aircraft (UCAV) operate from here. These include drones like Shahpar, Burrak, Turkey's Bayraktar TB2/Akinji and Chinese Wing Loong-II.

On the morning of May 10, when Pakistan's DGMO Major General Kashif Abdullah talked about ceasefire with India's DGMO Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, a few hours before that, the Indian Air Force had intensified attacks on several airbases of Pakistan. India took this action in response to drone intrusion by Pakistan at more than 26 places.

Repairs at other Pak airbases also

Repair work is going on at several airbases in Pakistan following the IAF attacks in May. The runways at Sargodha's Mushaf airbase and Rahim Yar Khan were damaged, which have now been repaired.

Hangars at Jacobabad, Bholari and Sukkur were destroyed. The Indian Air Force believes that F-16 fighter aircraft were destroyed in Jacobabad, while an AWACS aircraft along with its hangar was destroyed in Bholari. The drone hangar in Sukkur was completely demolished. New structures are also seen being built at Noor Khan Airbase near Islamabad.
