Digital Desk, Samastipur. Patna Purnia Expressway Project: Patna-Purnia Expressway, which will give a new direction to the infrastructure of Bihar, is now moving fast towards coming on the ground.
After the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), now preparations are being made to start the tender process for this much-awaited project. Meanwhile, the process of land acquisition has been expedited in other districts including Samastipur.
This expressway will be the first access-controlled expressway in the state, which will make travel between North and South Bihar extremely easy. Patna-Purnia Expressway has received in-principle approval under the Bharatmala Project (Phase-2) of the Central Government.
The estimated cost of the project is said to be around Rs 12 to 13 thousand crores, which includes the cost of land acquisition along with construction work. After finalizing the DPR, the concerned agencies are now moving towards the tender process.
This 215 km long expressway will start from Patna (Bidupur), which will reach Purnia via Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria and Madhepura.
This expressway will be directly connected to Patna through the Kachchi Dargah-Bidupur bridge being built on the Ganga river, which will establish uninterrupted connectivity from the capital to Seemanchal.
At present the process of land acquisition is going on at different stages in different districts related to this project. The design of the project has been kept as four lanes, which has a provision to be expanded to six lanes in future.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is likely to start the tender process for some of its parts soon. The government aims to complete this expressway by the year 2027–28 if the pace of land acquisition and construction work continues.
Once the construction starts, it is estimated to take about 30 to 36 months to complete. With the construction of the expressway, the journey from Patna to Purnia, which currently takes 7–8 hours, will be reduced to just 3 to 3.5 hours. This will strengthen the economy of Seemanchal region.
It will be easier to transport maize, makhana and other agricultural products to big markets. Besides, this route will also prove to be an important connectivity corridor for the Indo-Nepal border and north-eastern states in the future.
Overall, the Patna–Purnia Expressway is being considered a major game-changer project in Bihar opening up new opportunities for road network, investment and employment.
