Rudraprayag: Former Municipal President And Congress Leader Devendra Singh Jhinquan Passes Away, Wave Of Mourning In The District

Samvad Sahayak, Jagran, Rudraprayag: Senior Congress leader, former office bearer and former Municipal President Devendra Singh Jhinkwan, who played a central role in the politics of the district for almost three decades, died due to heart failure on Sunday night. He was 74 years old. His demise caused a wave of mourning in the entire region including the district.

According to the information, his health suddenly deteriorated at his residence in Koteshwar on Sunday night. The family immediately took him to the district hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. As soon as the news of his demise was received, Congress workers, political representatives and common citizens flocked to his residence.

His last rites were performed on the banks of Alaknanda-Mandakini Sangam in the afternoon. Both his sons lit his funeral pyre. A large number of people were present in the last journey. Congress workers raised slogans of 'Long live Devendra Jhinquan' and paid tribute to him by offering the Congress flag and observing two minutes of silence.

Devendra Singh Jhinquan, along with Dr. Harak Singh Rawat, made an important contribution in the announcement of the formation of Rudraprayag during the then BSP government of Uttar Pradesh. He was also the Chairman of Rudraprayag Municipality.

At the same time, he also served as a responsibility bearer. His wife Geeta Devi has also been the Municipal President in the past. After his death, there was an atmosphere of mourning in Rudraprayag city and the markets also remained closed in the afternoon.

Those who expressed condolence on his demise included MLA Bharat Singh Choudhary, MLA Asha Nautiyal, District Panchayat President Poonam Kathait, Municipal President Santosh Rawat, former District Panchayat President Lakshmi Rana, office bearer Chandi Prasad Bhatt, BKTC Vice President Vijay Kaprawan, BJP District President Bharat Bhushan Bhatt, Congress District President Kuldeep Kandari, Trade Union President Rai Singh Bisht etc.
