While granting bail, the court imposed conditions that Gulati would cooperate fully in the investigation and would not tamper with the evidence.

Jagran correspondent, Mohali. Now his close aide Harpreet Singh Gulati has also got relief after getting bail from the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case of former Punjab minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia. The court of Additional Sessions Judge accepted the bail plea of Gulati.

The court has ordered Gulati to be released on bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. Gulati's lawyer Charanjit Singh Bakshi said that Gulati has been wrongly implicated.

Gulati had earlier cooperated fully in the investigation and provided all financial records as a prosecution witness. Later he himself was made an accused, which is against the law. The lawyer cited several Supreme Court decisions, including Peethambaran vs. State of Kerala and Joginder Kumar vs. State of Uttar Pradesh.

The lawyer said the investigation has been completed and there is no concrete evidence against Gulati. Gulati has no criminal history nor did he route any illegal funds. The lawyer argued that the Vigilance Bureau started a fresh investigation after using the first as a witness, which is wrong in law.

Gulati does not even have a passport and since the mobile phone has been seized, there is no possibility of absconding or tampering with evidence. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, Judge Hardeep Singh said that the investigation has been completed and there is no purpose in keeping the accused in custody at this stage.

While granting bail, the court imposed conditions that Gulati will cooperate fully in the investigation, will not tamper with the evidence, will not leave the country without the permission of the court and will be present in the court at every hearing.
