Digital Desk, New Delhi. Syria's Defense Ministry on Friday announced a ceasefire in Aleppo after three days of clashes between government forces and Kurdish fighters. Due to this thousands of people have been displaced.
The ceasefire in Sheikh Maqsood, Ashrafieh and Bani Zaid areas came into effect at 3am and armed groups were given six hours to leave the area, the statement said. It said the departing fighters would be allowed to take their personal light weapons and would be provided security as far as the north-eastern part of the country, which is under the control of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.
Governor visited disputed areas
Aleppo Governor Ajam al-Gharib visited the disputed areas. There was no immediate public reaction from the SDF and it was unclear whether Kurdish forces in Aleppo had agreed to the deal.
U.S. Ambassador to Syria Tom Barrack welcomed the announcement and expressed deep gratitude for the restraint by all parties (the Syrian Government, Syrian Democratic Forces, local authorities, and community leaders).
