Jagran correspondent, Patna. More than half of the cities of the state, including the capital, are in the grip of polluted air. On Wednesday, the air of the capital's Danapur, Chhapra, Biharsharif and Hajipur was the most polluted in the state. The air quality index (AQI) of Patna City's Shikarpur was 172, Rajvanshi Nagar was 170 and Muradpur was 140. AQI of Danapur was recorded at 269, Chhapra at 285, Bihar Sharif at 241 and Hajipur at 230.
The air of 17 cities of the state remained moderately polluted. There is a blanket of dust on Danapur station and its surrounding buildings. Due to increased vehicular movement on the road leading from Saguna Mod to Danapur station and operation of trucks at night, pollutants are accumulating in the lower levels of the atmosphere in this area. Due to the presence of heaps of sand on both sides of the road, dust is thrown up by passing vehicles.
According to the Meteorological Center, the density of air increases with the drop in temperature during winter days. Due to increase in density of air and decrease in temperature, polluted air remains at the bottom. In such a situation it looks like a mist. The level of pollution keeps increasing and decreasing in many places. The air quality of the city is affected depending on the geographical structure of the state.
Since the soil is not solid, the amount of dust particles in the air increases. As warm air rises, cold air descends. Due to this, the dust present in the atmosphere starts accumulating. The air quality of the city is affected due to the dust particles present in the western air.
Apart from this, due to the construction work going on at different places, the air quality is bad. The air can be kept clean by regularly sprinkling water on the roads at different places in the city.
