State Bureau, Jagran Dehradun. Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council is going to focus especially on skill development of youth in the field of tourism and hospitality. In this sequence, the Council and THSC (Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council) will conduct 15-day skill training for the students of the state-run Government Institute of Hotel Management and Institute of Hotel Management Dehradun.
Its objective is to skill the students in their placement process for which THSC will send a team. This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Tourism Secretary Dhiraj Garbyal in connection with tourism-based training, standardization of hospitality services in the state and preparation of certified guides. Tourism Secretary Garbyal directed in the meeting that a gap analysis report should be prepared through THSC and Lalit Hospitality to develop hotel management institutions as per national and international standards.
Referring to the MOU between the Council and THSC, he said that under this, free training will be given to BPL category candidates. General candidates will be charged fee in 50:50 ratio. This program will be conducted in both Garhwal and Kumaon regions.
The Tourism Secretary also directed that official identity cards should be issued to guides related to nature, heritage, destination, astro, river and other adventure tourism. It was also decided in the meeting that under the pilot project, local youth and home stay operators in Dharchula area will be given training related to hospitality and food quality. With this, high quality and diverse food will be available to tourists in remote areas.

100 students will be sent abroad for internship. Tourism Secretary said that under the special agreement with THSC, 100 meritorious students of government hotel management institutes run in the state will be sent for internship in top class institutes abroad. Apart from the Council, THSC officials and Principals of Hotel Management Institutes were present in the meeting.
