Digital Desk, New Delhi. Amid rising temperatures across the world, the unusual cold in many areas has sparked a new debate among scientists. On one hand, concerns about climate change are being raised due to the warming of the earth, while on the other hand, due to the extreme cold, question marks are also being raised on this theory.

According to the New York Times report, scientists have suggested the solution through their own ideas. Judah Cohen, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), believes that due to the rapid warming of the Arctic region, the 'Polar Vortex' present in the upper atmosphere is becoming unstable.

This instability affects the flow of the jet stream, causing prolonged cold winds and ice storms across eastern parts of the US.

impact on winter intensity

According to Cohen, polar vortex expansion and wobbles have increased in recent years, which is impacting the severity of winter. However, many other scientists do not agree with this theory.

Cold is decreasing due to global warming

Researcher Russell Blackport of Canada's Department of Environment and Climate Change says that long-term data and climate models show that due to global warming, the incidence of extreme cold is decreasing.

Experts also believe that it may be too early to directly link any one weather event to climate change. Nevertheless, it is clear that climate change is affecting seasonal patterns and that extreme weather conditions may take different forms in the future.

Jennifer Francis, senior scientist at the Woodwell Climate Center, said it may be too early to link the extreme cold in the eastern region to climate change. However, he said the pattern of seasonal changes is changing due to prolonged heat.

It's too early to predict climate change

Amy Butler, a research scientist in Colorado, said it is too early to predict climate change from a single cold spell. He said that data shows that the duration of prolonged extreme cold is decreasing day by day and will continue to reduce.
