9th Class Student Attacked Indian Students With Knife In Russia, Also Attacked Police During Arrest

Digital Desk, New Delhi. The knife attack on Saturday at a hostel for foreign students at a university in Russia's Republic of Bashkortostan was carried out by a 15-year-old ninth grade student at a local school.

The attacker armed with a knife entered the hostel of the State Medical University in Ufa, Bashkortostan and attacked the students living there. Six people including four Indians were injured in this attack.

The condition of Indian students improved

The Indian Mission said on Sunday that the condition of the Indian students injured in the attack was improving. The Indian mission said, he is recovering. Our consular officer met him in the hospital and also met other students in the hostel. We are in regular touch with them.

attempted suicide after being attacked

Meanwhile, Bashkortostan's official news agency Bashinform reported that the attacker also injured two police officers and a hostel guard while protesting against the arrest. The teenage attacker tried to commit suicide and is hospitalized in critical condition.

Case of serious negligence registered

The Prosecutor's Office of Bashkortostan and the local branch of the Federal Investigative Committee have filed a case of grave negligence against officials of the educational institution. A case has also been registered against the agencies concerned for prevention of juvenile delinquency.

Meanwhile, Bashkortostan Premier Rady Khabirov has taken strict measures to tighten security at educational institutions. He is in touch with the Indian Embassy and relatives of the victims. On Saturday, a channel had claimed that the attacker belonged to a banned neo-Nazi organization NS/WP. (With inputs from news agency PTI)
