Jagran correspondent, Amroha. Despite smart meters being prepaid in the district, bills worth Rs 12 crore are outstanding on 32 thousand consumers for several months. The department will now run a special awareness campaign and contact consumers to download the UPPCL Smart App on their mobile phones.
Consumers will be motivated to maintain positive balance by giving training on recharging through that app. To avoid negative balance, consumers will have to do advance recharge for the next month.
32 thousand smart meters have been prepaid
According to government figures, there are 3.70 lakh electricity consumers in the district. Of these, about 2.90 lakh consumers are domestic. For transparency in electricity bills, smart meters are being installed in the homes of all the consumers, in which till now smart meters have been installed in the homes of 44 thousand consumers. The special thing in this is that the smart meter has been linked to the consumer's mobile number, in which after the smart meter is converted into prepaid, the consumer will download the UPPCL Smart App on his mobile phone and recharge on it only.
Consumers did not recharge their mobile phones by downloading the app
The more money you recharge, the more electricity you will spend. In which till now 39 thousand smart meters have been prepaid. In which consumers had to recharge their mobiles on the app. Despite this, 32 thousand consumers have not recharged and deposited their bills online, due to which they are owing more than Rs 12 crore to the department. The list of consumers has been made available to all JEs subdivision wise. The department is losing revenue worth lakhs of rupees every month due to non-payment of outstanding bills.
The department is running the campaign till 15 February
Following the strictness of Discom, the department is running a campaign till 15th February to deposit the dues. In this, the employees are motivating the consumers to recharge through the UPPCL smart app installed in their mobile phones and maintain positive balance.
The prepaid smart meter will allow consumers to deposit their past due bills through the app and also recharge the next month's bill in advance to avoid negative balance. So that they do not have negative balance, special emphasis is being laid on this in the campaign. Even after this, if negative balance persists, instructions have been given to disconnect the connections of the consumers.
Consumers with prepaid smart meters have outstanding dues of around Rs 12 crore.
