Jagran correspondent, Kanpur Nagar. Amidst the preparations for the three-tier Panchayat elections, a campaign will be run again for verification of duplicate voters. The State Election Commission has now changed the date of publication of the final voter list to March 28 instead of February 6. In the campaign conducted so far, 29 thousand claims and objections had been resolved, whereas now the list of 5 lakh 17 thousand 503 duplicate voters will be prepared after re-verification. After the revision campaign in 590 village panchayats in the district, a list of 12 lakh 84 voters was prepared. In the campaign that lasted till January 6, preparations were being made to publish the voter list after disposing of 29 thousand claims and objections, but on Wednesday the Election Commission has changed the date of publication of the final voter list to March 28.
Along with this, the process of verification and disposal will continue till February 20 to identify more than five lakh potential duplicate voters. After this, names will be added to the voter list from February 21 to March 16. During this, BLOs will identify genuine duplicate voters after door-to-door verification and archival check. The officials have appealed to the voters to check their names, addresses and other details and lodge claims and objections in time, so that the final voter list can be prepared error-free and the Panchayat elections can be conducted fairly.
