After Indore And Greater Noida, Contaminated Water Becomes A Threat In Delhi, Sewer Like Water Coming From Household Taps In West Delhi

Foul smell coming from the water being supplied to homes for the last 10 days. symbolic picture

Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. First Indore, then Greater Noida and now West Delhi…. Contaminated water is being supplied to HMP (Hot Mix Plant) Colony located in Raghubir Nagar of Rajouri Garden Assembly constituency for the last two days. Initially the supply was stopped for 10 days and when it started again, smelly water like sewer started coming. The water smells so bad that leave alone drinking it, it cannot be used even for other daily activities.

Water mafia is taking advantage of administrative negligence

The people of the colony allege that when they call to complain, the JE does not pick up the phone. This is the situation when 27 people lost their lives and 33 others fell ill after drinking contaminated water in Indore, while in Greater Noida, about 130 people had to suffer from vomiting, diarrhea or fever. On the other hand, water mafia is taking advantage of administrative negligence. The 20 liter bottle of water which was earlier available for Rs 20 is now being sold for Rs 25. The question is whether the administration will wake up when people start falling ill here too?

Sewer line and water supply pipeline together

There are about 16,000 kilometers of pipelines in Delhi. Out of this, 5200 km pipeline is more than 30 years old and 2700 km is more than 20 years old. At many places, sewer lines and water supply pipelines are together.

In such a situation, sewer water gets mixed with the damaged pipeline. After the Indore incident, the CEO of Delhi Jal Board had given instructions to resolve the problem within two days after receiving the complaint, but looking at the condition of HMP Colony, it can be estimated how serious the officers are showing on the instructions of the CEO?

Muddy water and that too smelly

Colony residents say that water supply is being provided only in some parts of the colony for the last two days, but even where water is coming, the pressure is low. पानी का रंग मटमैला है और वह भी बदबूदार। There is a possibility that sewer water is getting mixed in it somewhere. Many people keep running the water tap in the hope that after some time proper water will start coming out, but only smelly and dirty water keeps coming.

Poor service of Delhi Jal Board

The people of the colony complain that whenever they complain about water shortage or contaminated water supply from Delhi Jal Board, they receive a message. The message contains the number of the JE of the area, but when an attempt is made to contact this number, no matter how many times one dials, the phone does not pick up.
