Amazon Pay has introduced biometric authentication feature for UPI payments.
Technology Desk, New Delhi. Amazon Pay has introduced a new biometric authentication feature for UPI transactions, making it the first payment service provider in India to offer fingerprint and face-based approval. This new update will allow users to authorize some UPI payments without entering the PIN, which will make payments faster.
With this new system, Amazon Pay UPI users will be able to approve payments up to Rs 5,000 through biometric security like fingerprint scan of the device or facial recognition. This feature works for all tasks like sending money to contacts, making payments by scanning merchants and checking account balance.
According to Amazon Pay, initial usage data shows that there is a lot of interest from customers in this feature. According to the report, more than 90 percent of eligible UPI transactions are being authorized through biometric verification instead of PIN-based authentication. The company says that this method is safer and increases convenience by reducing one extra step.
Currently at launch, UPI biometric authentication on Amazon Pay is available only for Android users. Because, it depends on the device-level biometric system supported by the platform. It is specifically designed for one-handed use and faster checkout, especially for offline merchant payments.
