This is not only a festival of seasonal change, it is also a great festival of awakening of Saraswati element in human conscience.
This festival gives an opportunity to worship Saraswati. Mother Saraswati has been called the goddess of knowledge, but in the Indian sage tradition, knowledge does not mean only information or scientific knowledge. Knowledge is the power which makes a human being rational, sensitive and responsible. From this point of view, Mother Saraswati is not only the presiding deity of reading and writing, but is also the divine inspiration for purity of speech, thoughts and conduct.
Spring season itself is a symbol of Saraswati element. Just as the inertia of cold breaks and new consciousness is infused into life, similarly worshiping Goddess Saraswati infuses wisdom by removing the ignorance, carelessness and negativity rooted within a person. Yellow flowers, green fields and gentle atmosphere remind us that the basic nature of life is growth and beauty.
Today's era is the era of science. There is no dearth of technology and information, yet imbalance, violence and directionlessness are increasing in the society. The reason for this is not lack of knowledge, but lack of cultured knowledge. Yugarishi Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya has clearly said that - “The education which does not make a person great is not a real education.” Saraswati Puja and Vasant Panchami are the festivals of solution to this deformity, where we take a pledge to link knowledge with character and service.
The symbolic form of Mother Saraswati makes the message clear that her white clothes are a symbol of purity and impeccability. It states that true knowledge is free from ego. Veena indicates balance. There is a balance of thought and action, study and conduct. His vehicle the swan symbolizes prudence, the ability to separate milk and water, i.e. the distinction between truth and falsehood.
In the view of Gayatri Parivar, Saraswati worship is an extension of Gayatri Sadhana. The verse of Gayatri Mantra “Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat” is a prayer for refinement of intellect. Only when the intellect is pure, the knowledge of Saraswati becomes beneficial for the people. That is why it is said that Gayatri shapes the intellect and Saraswati illuminates it.
The real meaning of Saraswati puja on Basant Panchami is not limited to the worship of books and pens. Its real meaning is purity of thoughts, restraint of speech, dignity of conduct and dedication of talent to the society.
Yugarishi Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharyashree and Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma ji say that “Live what you have learned and share what you have lived.” Today's youth is the focus of this festival. That is the pivot of era change. If his intellect is cultivated, then only he will give a new direction to the youth society.
Saraswati Puja and Vasant Panchami inspire the youth to live not only successful but also meaningful lives. Only when Saraswati worship becomes a way of life will it be possible to build a society full of knowledge, compassion and service.
